  • Lync 2010 Mobility broken - Event ID 1309

Today my Lync mobility was broken. I simply could not connect to Lync on my mobile device. I was baffled because some users could connect.  A closer look revealed that users that were connected were most on a different Lync Pool. I enabled logging on my device and tried again and the I send myself the diagnostic logs from Android Device. Below is the clue to the problem preventing me from using Lync Mobile

  • Lync 2010 Mobility Policy

Lync mobility mobility policy provides you with a way to control lync on mobile devices. I have had Lync mobility working for a while now and my users have been very happy. Except when one group is happy, there is a another group which is unhappy. What could possibly make someone unhappy with Lync mobile? Well several things actually...

  • Lync Online Presence in Microsoft Outlook broken in Exchange Migration Scenario

Lync addicts can give weird requests. Today a user complained lync online presence is not working in outlook. I thought to myself, why would someone wants to view someone elses Lync presence in outlook. You can simply lookup the person in Lync client and send an IM. So i called the user to hear it from the horses mouth. And yes, that was correct, she could view the presence in lync client, but she always views in outlook, and she wants it back.

Below is screenshot from one of the cases. Lync online presence is not working. The same contact when viewed from Lync Client. The contact has presence working correctly. Please note Lync Presence does not work in outlook for all contacts.

So I set out to find the cause and the fix. As it turns out, this user was migrated to another domain. Lync exists in a different domain. Email address and Lync are sip address are now different.Hence Email comparison check was failing. The solution is detailed here on this Microsoft KB

Disable the email check.  To do this, follow these steps.

    1. Click Start , click Run, type regedit, and then press ENTER.
    2. Locate, and then right-click the following registry subkey:
    3. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Communicator
            or
            HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Lync
    4. Point to New, and then click DWORD Value.
    5. Type DisableEmailComparisonCheck as the name of new registry entry, and then press ENTER.
    6. Double-click DisableEmailComparisonCheck, type 1 in the Value data box, and then click OK.
    7. Close Registry Editor.
    8. Restart Lync 2010 and Outlook.

After the change here is my happy outlook client

  • Streaming Video in Lync 2010 Online Meeting or Presentation

    Background

If you ever wanted to present PowerPoint in Lync, then chances are, you know its possible. How about presenting Video into the Lync Online Meeting or Lync call? Well this is not possible, oops, You can play the video and share your screen or Media Player application. The remote party will get the video. So its actually possible but the remote party or meeting participants get lousy video quality that constantly peels every second. The quality of the picture is not that great. However after investing sometime into this topic, I figured a way to make this possible. If you are looking a commercial solution and have a budget for it then the following solutions are worth considering.
